OUR HISTORY
Established 1913
Established 1913
In the early twentieth century, when shirts were made with detachable collars known as neck band shirts, Rayner & Sturges began manufacturing collars in Westcourt Street, Brompton Kent in the same building where our shirts are made today.
At first, Rayner & Sturges sold their collars to the Jermyn Street shirtmakers but in 1935 Rayner & Sturges became shirtmakers in their own right.
In 2010, Rayner and Sturges acquired Cleeve Shirtmakers and Cravats of London both based in Chard Somerset. After the acquisition, the Ready-to-Wear production was consolidated in Chard whilst the Bespoke and Made-to-Measure shirtmaking continued to be made in Brompton Kent.

Collars, Cuffs & Shirt Construction
Collars, Cuffs & Shirt Construction
Collars are undoubtedly the most distinguishing feature of the shirt. Although the shape is defining, it is vitally important to consider the construction of the collar. This has been proven over the last hundred years by such international companies as Arrow and Van Heusen who as well as Rayner & Sturges started as collar makers.

UNIQUE APPLICATIONS
Pleating, Pin tucking, Ruffles & more
Pleating, Pin tucking, Ruffles & more
At Rayner & Sturges we are very fortunate to have Wendy Sandham, who for the past twenty-five years has been making unique applications which are incorporated in the manufacture of
our shirts.
These exquisite pieces of detailing are particularly elegant when used for the front of garments and or on collars, cuffs and handkerchiefs.
We can therefore understand why designers get frustrated when they
design a shirt and discover it is impossible to find an experienced seamstress with the necessary skills to complete their collections.
